Overview
In demyelinating and neurodegenerative disorders like multiple sclerosis, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is vital for diagnosing, treating, and prognosing the disease. It also enhances our understanding of the condition. Hence, it’s crucial to standardize and optimize MRI acquisition protocols and analysis, both in clinical practice and research. Quantitative methods for assessing lesions and atrophy offer more objective measures of disease burden compared to visual inspection. These methods are increasingly being adopted from research into clinical settings. Various post-processing imaging techniques have been developed with different strengths and limitations over time. Despite being extensively used in clinical studies and trials, introducing quantitative MRI measures into clinical practice has been challenging due to methodological issues.
Learning Objective
Through a variety of educational formats, including live sessions and online resources, The MRI-Lab focuses on addressing fundamental and advanced methodological aspects related to utilizing quantitative measures of lesions and atrophy. The primary learning objectives of these sessions are as follows:
- Illustrating the key challenges in standardizing and optimizing MRI acquisition protocols.
- Explaining methods to streamline image post-processing.
- Examining the strengths and limitations of existing software packages used for image quantification.
